The Anand Karaj ("Blissful Union") takes place in a Gurdwara. It is a warm, joyful and welcoming ceremony - here are a few gentle notes so you feel right at home:
The heart of the ceremony
An Anand Karaj has no spoken vows. Instead, the marriage is sealed through the Laavan - four wedding hymns sung by the raagis. After each hymn, Varun and Jasmine walk slowly and clockwise around the Guru Granth Sahib, the Sikh holy scripture, with the Guru as their witness. Varun leads and Jasmine follows, the two joined by the palla - a length of scarf passed from the groom to the bride - so they circle as one. Each round, or laav, marks a step in the journey they begin together.
The first round is a vow to build married life on righteous living and on remembrance of the Divine - the ground everything else stands upon.
The second deepens that bond into love and wonder, as the ego dissolves and the couple draws nearer to the Divine and to one another.
The third fills the heart with divine love, nurtured in the company of the holy - a love that rises above the everyday.
In the fourth and final round, harmony is reached: two souls settle into peace and blend, as the Sikh phrase goes, into “one light in two bodies.”
You are warmly invited to simply sit, listen, and share in the calm. No prior knowledge is needed - being here with us is the whole gift.
Getting there & staying over
Everything you need to plan your trip to the Greater Toronto Area. The reception is at Chandni Victoria on Drew Road, Mississauga - minutes from Toronto Pearson Airport.
On-site or nearby parking is available at each venue - tap “Get directions” for the exact location.
Fly into Toronto Pearson (YYZ) - the reception on Drew Rd is just ~5 minutes away.
Rideshare (Uber/Lyft) and taxis are plentiful across the GTA.
A cluster of airport hotels (Marriott, Hilton, Sheraton & more) sit minutes from Drew Rd.
We're holding a discounted room block for our guests - the host hotel and booking code are [To be confirmed], and will appear here.
Travelling as a group or family? Airbnb homes across Brampton and Mississauga are a comfortable option too.
Venues are spread across the GTA; we recommend a car or rideshare between events.
We won't be running a group shuttle, so we'd suggest arranging your own way between venues - rideshare (Uber/Lyft) and taxis are plentiful across the GTA, and there's parking at each venue.

Festive Indian attire is warmly encouraged across all events. Here's the vibe - and a colour cue - for each day.

Dress to dance - vibrant lehengas, sharp suits, bold colour and a little sparkle.
Thu, 1 Oct · Haldi & Mehndi
Light, breezy and colourful - yellows, oranges, greens and light pinks. Heads-up: haldi can stain, so wear something you don't mind.
Fri, 2 Oct · Anand Karaj
Graceful, covered attire for the Gurdwara; head covering required (provided). The bride's close family will wear lavender purple and the groom's close family Tiffany blue - soft pastels are perfect.
Sat, 3 Oct · Reception
Bring out the showstoppers - formal gowns, suits and your finest Indian formalwear in dark maroon, royal purple, royal blue or black for a night at Chandni Victoria.
A gentle note - please avoid white or ivory on the wedding day, and don't be shy with colour. The more vibrant, the better!

Absolutely - we would love to welcome all the precious little ones too! Please remember to include them in your party numbers when you RSVP. Please note that the noise level at the Reception can be high, so we encourage ear protection or headphones for little ones. There will be a quiet room available at the Sangeet venue.
Anand Karaj means “blissful union”. It is a vibrant and deeply spiritual ceremony that takes place in a Gurdwara. It is centred around the Guru Granth Sahib (the Sikh holy book) and focuses on the spiritual merging of two souls as equals. Prior to the wedding ceremony there is a Milni at the gurdwara entrance (the meeting of the two families), followed by breakfast served in the dining hall. During the ceremony, guests are kindly asked to keep their heads covered, shoes off, and to be seated on the floor in modest dress. Following the four Laavan (the four wedding hymns) there is communal singing, a final prayer (Ardaas), and the distribution of Karah Prasad (a sweet, sacred pudding made of flour, butter and sugar) to everyone in the congregation. Then langar (a shared meal) is served in the dining hall. You can read more in The Anand Karaj section above.
Personal photos are welcome at most of our celebrations. During the Anand Karaj, we kindly ask you to be discreet and to follow any guidance from the Gurdwara and our photographer, so everyone can stay present in the moment.
We do not have a gift registry. Your presence is truly the gift - please don't feel any obligation. Should you wish to give, cash shagun in a card is the lovely tradition, offered with both hands. Many choose an amount ending in 1 (for example $101 or $251), where the extra dollar carries a wish of never-ending good fortune; the amount is always personal and entirely up to you. Cards & shagun are warmly received at the reception.
