The Anand Karaj

What to expect at the Sikh ceremony

The Anand Karaj ("Blissful Union") takes place in a Gurdwara. It is a warm, joyful and welcoming ceremony — here are a few gentle notes so you feel right at home:

  • Cover your head. Everyone keeps their head covered inside the hall — bring a scarf or dupatta, or use a head covering provided at the door.
  • Shoes off. Shoes are removed before entering; there is a designated area to leave them.
  • Seating on the floor. Guests sit on the carpeted floor; chairs are available for anyone who needs them.
  • Dress modestly. Shoulders and legs covered — festive Indian or modest formal wear is perfect.
  • Langar. The ceremony is followed by langar, a shared vegetarian meal served warmly to all.
  • Please note there is no alcohol or tobacco on Gurdwara premises.

What to wear

Dress Code & Colours

Festive Indian attire is warmly encouraged across all events. Here's the vibe — and a colour cue — for each day.

Wed, 30 Sept · Sangeet

Glamorous & festive

Dress to dance — vibrant lehengas, sharp suits, bold colour and a little sparkle.

Thu, 1 Oct · Haldi & Mehndi

Bright & relaxed

Light, breezy and colourful — yellows, oranges and florals. Heads-up: haldi can stain, so wear something you don't mind.

Fri, 2 Oct · Anand Karaj

Elegant & modest

Graceful, covered attire for the Gurdwara; head covering required (provided). Soft, refined tones.

Sat, 3 Oct · Reception

Black-tie glamour

Bring out the showstoppers — formal gowns, suits and your finest Indian formalwear for a night at Chandni Victoria.

A gentle note — please avoid white or ivory at the wedding events, and don't be shy with colour. The more vibrant, the better!
